| Child-care Transportation Safety Tips
It is unfortunate, but school transportation is not always as safe as it should be for our children. With so many news reports of children being improperly secured in safety seats or accidentally left in school vans and buses, it's no wonder parents want to know how to keep their children safe as they travel to and from school.
The safe transport of our children to child-care centers, in-home care providers, churches and schools should be an important topic for everyone, not just parents. The next time your child travels, ask yourself these questions:

Have I reviewed with my child-care provider the safety transportation policies, licenses and procedures?

Have I examined the vehicle that will transport my child between home and school?

Have I examined the safety seats used by the center to be sure they are up-to-date and appropriate for my child's size and weight?

Have I traveled on my child's van, bus or other vehicle to examine how the driver handles transportation concerns?

Do I know how many children ride in the vehicle that my child travels to and from school on?

Have I met my child's transportation driver, and do I know he or she has been properly trained for the position?

If you answered "No" to any of these questions, make sure to follow up with your child-care provider, church or school to make sure your child is safe.
