Parents of Toddlers and Preschoolers

Two-hour sessions once a week for seven weeks. Sessions include:

How I Grow and Learn helps parents understand child development, set expectations based on their child's development and find different ways to nurture their child.

My First Teachers helps parents teach young children right from wrong, using clear communication and reasonable positive and negative consequences.

Catch Me Being Good helps parents observe and create more opportunities to encourage their children's good behavior through praise, attention and affection.

Teach Me What to Do helps parents learn effective ways to teach young children better habits through practice.

Help Me Do What's Right shows parents how to correct problem behaviors without the power struggle.

Help Me Calm Down teaches parents how to correct problem behaviors and give children the time and skills needed to calm down.

Putting It All Together helps parents develop a parenting style based on the information they’ve learned in class, including combining the new skills with the positive skills they already had, to improve relationships with their children.

Parents of Children Ages 6-16

Two-hour sessions once a week for six weeks. Sessions include:

Parents as Teachers shows parents how to teach children self-discipline.

Effective Praise helps parents encourage the positive behaviors their children do and teaches them how to respond enthusiastically and sincerely.

Preventive Teaching enables parents to teach their children what they'll need to know in a future situation, and practice using the skill in advance.

Corrective Teaching responds to children's problem behaviors with teaching and practicing acceptable alternatives. Parents will be able to adhere to a staying-calm plan for when they get upset with their children.

Teaching Self-Control is a skill parents can use to allow children time to calm down and remain calm in future situations.

Parents of Children with ADHD

Two-hour sessions once a week for seven weeks. Sessions include:

Why Do I Have ADHD? is a review of the definition, symptoms, medications, developmental strengths and weaknesses of ADHD. Parents learn how to set reasonable expectations and set up workable family routines for children diagnosed with ADHD.

Teach Me Right from Wrong teaches parents positive ways to discipline and clear ways to communicate with their ADHD child and shows them how to use appropriate consequences that teach right from wrong.

Tell Me When I'm Good teaches parents effective ways to nurture and encourage their ADHD children's positive attempts, improvements and accomplishments through praise, attention, charts and rewards.

Show Me What to Do teaches parents social skills they can practice with their children to decrease chronic problem behavior and increase their ability to deal appropriately with everyday situations.

Correct Me without Anger shows parents how to respond to ADHD children's frequent problem behavior by teaching and practicing acceptable alternatives. Parents develop a staying-calm plan with their ADHD children to keep things relaxed when parents need to correct their children’s behavior.

How Can I Calm Down gives parents easy-to-learn skills that help them model to their children how to calm down when becoming upset, including effective ways to avoid a major outburst.

Help Me Succeed In School enables parents to develop a parenting plan based on the information they’ve have learned in class. The plan helps parents to enhance their children's strengths and improve weaknesses in school. Parents will discuss fun study tools they can use at home and positive communication skills they can use with the staff at their children's school.

La Crianza Practics de los Hijos

A six-week class featuring culturally sensitive materials for Spanish-speaking parents. Training and materials are in Spanish. Ideal if a child is between the ages of 6 and 16.
