Skipping Class and Smoking Marijuana

If you have discovered that your teenager is skipping class and smoking marijuana, consider the following tips:

  • Order a drug test to determine the extent of his usage. Depending on the results, recommendations could include drug education, treatment or therapy.
  • When he skips school, provide consequences such as taking away his cell phone, computer, gaming systems, etc. Explain that these devices are privileges, not rights, and make him earn them back by attending school every day.
  • Get help handling or uncovering your child’s drug problem by calling 800-448-3000 any time, day or night, to speak with a trained, professional counselor.
