If your teenager refuses to go to school or demands a “day off,” try the following tips:
- Cut out the hang out. Demands for a day off should be met with work at home. Take away the TV, computer, headphones and video games until he’s willing to go to school every day.
- Talk to her teacher. Missing homework assignments, looming tests or class presentations may make your child so nervous that she doesn’t want to go to school. Help her overcome her fears and get the assignments done.
- Get a school counselor involved. Teenagers often feel more comfortable talking about various issues with an adult that is not their parent.
