How do I get my teenager more engaged with their schoolwork?
Have a conversation with their teacher, talk to their counselor, go to their extracurricular activities and talk to their friends. These would all be good ideas when it comes to getting your kids more engaged. Sometimes you can find out what a kid really likes in school when you find out what they really like outside of school. For example, my son really likes cars, like most boys, so I got him an educational mentor. What that was was someone who works on cars and understands how to paint and design cars. They got my son very interested in that. I said, “Well it takes math.” And that person told him it takes art, so he started taking the classes it requires to be that person. Maybe getting a mentor involved once you find out what your child's interests are will help them to become more engaged.
