When should children start getting back into a routine for a new school year?
Towards the end of July I get tons of questions about, "How do I smoothly transition my kid into the school year?" I try to use this analogy with parents. Think about a vacation. You just went to the beach. It was wonderful, beautiful and it’s time to go home. You're taking a flight home. It's delayed. You get home at 10 or 11:00 at night. How's that first day going to be back? Pretty terrible and it's going to take you a few days to transition.
I think the most important thing to remember is timing. We can't wait until that week before to transition our kid. We need to make sure that we're establishing those routines weeks ahead of time whether we're talking about a sleeping routine, an eating routine or involving academics. We need to be making sure that we do this weeks in advance.
