#AtTheTable Tonight: A Commitment to Family Dinners

Embracing Family Mealtime: Why It Matters

Teachable moments can come from a wide variety of sources, including other parents. From time to time, parents write blogs for us that we think you will find interesting, useful, or entertaining. Please enjoy this post from a fellow parent.

Tonight — and every other night — I am committed to having dinner together with my family. Because my kids are still young, I am lucky that their extracurricular activities are minimal, allowing me to schedule them around family dinners. However, I know that won’t last forever. As sports, music lessons, scouts, and other activities start to fill the early evening, family dinnertime can become a challenge. It’s crucial to prioritize these meals, as they provide us with the opportunity to hear about each other’s day, express gratitude for the good things in our lives, and spend quality time together. I cherish these moments and will continue to ensure my children understand the importance of family mealtime.

You should too! Start tonight by joining us at Boys Town — along with ConAgra Foods and Godfather’s Pizza — as we sit down #AtTheTable with our families and enjoy a meal together. The seeds you sow by starting a dinnertime tradition tonight will reap rewards well into the future — I promise! (Read more about how our family makes mealtime memorable).

If you need some help getting started, we’ve gathered some tips and conversation starters to help get your family talking at the table over at boystown.org.

Building Trust Through Everyday Conversations

Meaningful conversations often start in everyday moments. When kids feel safe, seen, and heard, they’re more likely to open up when it really matters. This is why creating a nurturing environment during family dinners is essential for building trust and connection.
