Parenting for School Success (Ages 6–16)

Attending our six-week class you will learn how to help your child transform their school experience using healthy routines, reasonable expectations, effective social skills and strategies to navigate peer culture. Our “head and heart” parenting skills will enhance your child’s behavior at home and at school. You will learn skills that give you confidence to effectively connect with your child and their school while supporting them during their educational journey. (Cost: $100 per parent) This class meets once a week for two hours for six weeks. The class covers the following:

• Parents as Teachers — Shows parents how to teach children social skills and uses consequences to help kids develop self-discipline at home and away from home.

• Encourage Good Behavior — Helps parents encourage positive school behaviors and gives child-oriented reasons to follow school rules and expectations.

• Preventing Problems — Enables parents to see how home and school routines can enhance children ability to excel in school while providing a daily school review of their progress and needs.

• Correcting Problems— Helps parents respond calmly to children's problem behaviors connect to their school performance while teaching alternatives. Parents and children plan to stay calm when emotions are high at home, in school or during afterschool events.

• Teaching Self-Control — Teaches parents a way to handle stressful situations and to help their child make better decisions to safely stay in school.

• Putting It All Together — Parents learn how to help children solve school and peer problems using the SODAS Method. Parents will develop their ability to communicate well with school staff using their School Success Plan.
